Restoration Promised after Exile
On that day, says the Lord,
I will assemble the lame
and gather those who have been driven away,
and those whom I have afflicted.
The lame I will make the remnant,
and those who were cast off, a strong nation;
and the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion
now and for evermore.
And you, O tower of the flock,
hill of daughter Zion,
to you it shall come,
the former dominion shall come,
the sovereignty of daughter Jerusalem.
To be in exile – what is that like, really? To be completely cut off from your own nation and culture; can’t be easy.
Israel found itself in that position and worse, for Israel believed that to be cut off from the Temple meant it was also cut off from God. It took time to realise that God was everywhere.
Prayer: Lord of the exile, to all who feel cut off from ‘home,’ bring your restoration; bring peace, bring hope. Amen.
